NEBS Compliant VoIP Operation

NEBS Compliant. NEBS, or “Network Equipment-Building System” describes the environmental, spatial, and safety specifications that are applied to all telecommunications equipment in the United States. The actual specifications were developed by Bell Labs in the 1970s as a means to standardize the equipment that would be used in a central office (CO.) The goal of the specification was to give vendors guidelines in building equipment which met the high levels of availability, environmental conditions, and safety required in the central office, while easing the integration and lowing overall costs to the central office.

Should I become a NEBS compliant VoIP Telephony Operator?

Absolutely, if your budget can accommodate. However; since you may not control all parts of the network leading to the actual VoIP phone or ATA adapter, you won't be able to control all aspects of NEBS compliancy like the telecommunications providers do. But the NEBS compliancy of your equipment, environment, and practices ensures that your service will function to all of your customer base that can communicate with your service. The bottom line is increased revenue by ensuring continuous operation while minimizing customer complaints and/or legal disputes.
